Moment waarop wereldwijde oliewinning haar maximale productie heeft bereikt, waarna de olieproductie in de wereld gaat dalen. De meningen onder deskundigen over dit tijdstip lopen sterk uiteen (zowel 2015 als 2050 worden soms genoemd).
In 1956 werd over - wat de Peak Oil-theorie zou gaan heten - voor het eerst gepubliceerd door de Amerikaanse geoloog M. King Hubbert in een presentatie voor het American Petroleum Institute; destijds schatte hij dat rond het jaar 2000 de productie van olie over zijn piek zou raken.
